Student Absences
Reporting An Absence
If your student is absent, we need to hear from you! Use one of the following ways below:
-
Call the office at 805-688-4810. Dial extension 1 for Lower Campus and extension 2 for Upper Campus.
-
Email our office at receptionist@solvangschool.org
-
Message us using ParentSquare – Search for “Office Staff.” This email goes to all office personnel. That way if someone is out, we are not missing your message.
-
Respond to the ParentSquare attendance notification sent in the afternoon.
-
In your message please include your name, the date of the absence and the reason for the absence.
Independent study
If you need to request independent study for extended illness or travel, please contact the office at 805-688-4810. Dial extension 1 for the lower campus or extension 2 for the upper campus
Illness protocol
If your student has COVID symptoms, public health recommends a negative COVID-19 test or doctor’s note. If neither of these requirements are met, your student will be required to quarantine for 10 days.
-
Negative COVID tests can be emailed to receptionist@solvangschool.org. Please include your student's full legal name.
-
If your student is experiencing fever, vomiting or diarrhea, they need to be symptom free, without medication, for 24 hours before returning to school.
-
In certain circumstances, the school may require a doctor’s note for consecutive days of absence due to illness.
Unexcused Absences
- Education Code §48205 states that the only valid excuse from school attendance is illness, quarantine, medical, dental, optometrical, or chiropractic appointment, attending a funeral of an immediate family member, religious holiday, religious retreat attendance, employment conference attendance, or court appearance.
- Please note that absences for travel or being out of town are not an excused, even when the school is notified. This does not apply for independent study.
-
While our office staff works to make sure we have contacted you regarding the reason your student is absent, if you have not provided an answer within three days, the absence is marked as unexcused and counts towards truancy.
